What it does

Google's official MCP server, CLI and skills that let your coding agent open and drive a live Chrome: click through pages, read console errors and network requests, record performance traces and fix things like slow loading or accessibility problems.

The Chrome DevTools team's bridge between coding agents and a real Chrome browser, offered as an MCP server and a command-line tool. Agents can automate pages, read console and network activity, take screenshots and…

Open http://localhost:3000, find out why the page loads slowly on mobile, and fix the biggest cause. Show me the trace numbers before and after.

Step by step

  1. Open the GitHub repo and read the README.
  2. In Claude Code: /plugin marketplace add ChromeDevTools/chrome-devtools-mcp, then /plugin install chrome-devtools-mcp@chrome-devtools-plugins (installs the server and all skills).
  3. Other agents: add an MCP server that runs npx -y chrome-devtools-mcp@latest (the repo has a setup page per tool).
  4. Test it with a first prompt such as "Check the performance of https://developers.chrome.com".

Watch out for

Google collects usage statistics by default; add --no-usage-statistics to the server arguments to opt out. Performance tools can send page URLs to Google's CrUX API for real-user data. The agent can see and change anything in that browser, so use a separate profile and keep personal logins out of it. Our scan flagged an rm -rf line in the troubleshooting doc (clearing its own cache folder); we read it and it is normal.
