Step by step
- Open the GitHub repo and listen to the examples to hear what it can do.
- Install it in Claude Code with /plugin marketplace add owoevan-dev/music-skill then /plugin install music-skill@music-skill, or npx skills add owoevan-dev/music-skill for Codex and other agents.
- Ask your agent to set up the renderer and the sound banks (bootstrap.py, then fetch_soundbanks.py; use --only band or --only orchestra to download less).
- Ask for a piece in plain words with its length and mood, then ask for changes bar by bar and for the MIDI and stems.
Watch out for
The first setup downloads about 3.4 GB of sound banks, so start with one group. Results depend on the model writing the score: listen before you publish. Surge XT (optional) is GPL-3.0 and runs as a separate program; the README lists every bank and its licence.
